About ShinigamiShinigami (Soul Reaper) are at their very fundamental state, guardians who watch over the cycle of souls. Most Shinigami appear like the average Human. There are, on occasion, a few Shinigami who break the mold, either by possessing a animalistic appearance or diminutive stature. Each shinigami typically wears a shihakusho, a black kimono. It is customary to wear a white undergarment underneath, and some add odd fashion statements to them by cutting off the sleeves or adding accessories. They commonly carry their Zanpakutō, a bladed soul weapon which is in most cases tied to their obi sash. Most notably, Shinigami possess the following qualities: - Longevity: Shinigami do not age at the same consistency as Humans and tend to maintain a youthful appearance for centuries. Shinigami can live for much longer than Humans, longer dated Shinigami having lived for nearly two thousand years.
- Reiryoku: Shinigami naturally possess high levels of Spiritual Power, which varies greatly in magnitude with the reiatsu of a Shinigami. A consequence of having Spiritual Power is that unlike powerless spirits, Shinigami need to eat.
- Zanpakutō: A Shinigami weapon, its shape is typically similar to a Japanese katana, but tends to differ between user. Low ranking officers are issued average swords, but higher ranking officers often arm themselves swords generated from their very souls. A Zanpakutō is a physical manifestation of the Shinigami's soul concentrated into a blade. All Shinigami possess a Zanpakutō, but not all of them carry one with them.

Gotei 13The Gotei 13 is the main military branch located in the epicenter of Soul Society. Unlike, most military units, the Gotei 13 does not function as a single unit but rather has a single Captain allocated to each of its 13 divisions, with each Captain running their respective division as they see fit. The only exception is Division 1 which is ruled by the Captain Commander, the head of the Gotei 13who overrules all other decisions. The Gotei 13 have four primary duties: - The defense of the Seireitei, the center of Soul Society.
- The deployment of members into enemy territory to combat enemy forces.
- The deployment of Task Forces as defensive measures in the world of the living.
- The governing of the balance of souls. The means by which they keep the balance of the souls are often categorized into two parts:
- Konsō (Soul Burial): the process by which a Shinigami sends wandering souls in the living world into Soul Society. Konsō is performed by using the hilt of the Shinigami's Zanpakutō, tapping the soul on their forehead and transporting them to Soul Society.
- Hollow Cleansing: When a Shinigami slays a Hollow with their Zanpakutō, they cleanse their sins. Once this takes place, a Hollow will return to its former state as a Soul and are reincarnated into Soul Society. Souls that live in Soul Society are then reborn again into the Human World.
Code Of The Gotei 131. Passing Of Spirits: A shinigami's main job is to aid with the flow of souls between Soul Society and the Living Realm. This often incorporates the dismissal and purification of human souls and Hollows. - Humans shall be deemed innocent and warrants their protection much as any other soul, protecting them. Due to rising hostilities between humans and Gotei 13, Shinigami are advised to avoid any spiritually aware humans they come into contact with. Self defense measures are permissible if necessary.
- Should a hollow not be capable of being purified through zanpaktou, the Hollow may be exterminated in order to protect nearby souls.
- Anything possessing hollow reiryoku or possesses traces of Hollow or even unauthorized interaction shall be treated as a Hollow and dealt with swiftly and accordingly.
2. A Captain holds all responsibility for those within their own division and determines the use for each member within their own division. As such, they are held responsible for any failure to comply with Gotei 13 code. They may however enforce their own additions within their division. 3. Acts of treason shall be defined under the following and shall be dealt with swiftly. - Homicide of fellow shingami without proper challenge
- Blackmailing or bribing any fellow officers
- Disobeying a direct order
- Stealing classified information
- Aiding known enemies within the soul society
- Exiting or Leaving Soul Society without Division 1 approval
- Having a hand in Hollowfication or unauthorized dealings with Hollows
- Using Forbidden Kido
4. Theft of any kind is not tolerated 5. Zanpaktou, while attending meetings must be sheathed for the length of gathering unless otherwise stated by 1st Division Captain. 6. Releasing Bankai within the Soul is forbidden unless otherwise stated. 7. All punishments shall be carried out by Division 5 and may be as minor as a fine or a death sentence carried out by the following methods: - Shikei- The most common form of punishment, Shikei is carried out by numerous ways. Shikei is often a quick death by the Execution Division's zanpaktou, while the criminal is shackled.
- Sōkyoku - The Sōkyoku is a giant zanpaktou that completely incinerates a soul on contact. When released, Sōkyoku takes on the form of a phoenix called Kikōō. Kikōō has the destructive power of one million zanpakutō, and that power is multiplied ten fold upon the moment it plunges through its victim.
Promotion within The Gotei 6Becoming Head Commander:Should a Head Commander be needed, an eligible Shinigami capable of performing Bankai needs to acquire recommendations from six of the Gotei 13 Captains. Becoming Captain:A shinigami may progress to the rank of Captain by two separate methods: - 1.Captain Proficiency Test:
The proficiency test must be witnessed by the Captain Commander and is the easiest way to become one. The test involves the ability to use Bankai, the final release of a zanpaktou.
- 2. Challenge:
The second method to become a Captain is to officially challenge one of the current Gotei 13 Captains to a one on one spar within their own division. Upon losing, the Captain must relinquish their position to the one who defeated them.
Rising up Ranks:In order to raise up a seat, one must either challenge and win a seat above them or be promoted to a higher rank by the Captain or Vice Captain(Second Seat). All challenges must be witnessed by the Vice Captain or Captain.
